No people are fucking stupid, "oh you'll offend them if you don't do it right". Isn't that kind of insulting their intelligence, like they're not smart enough to know you are a foreigner, and not smart enough to not be offended? It's like the middle finger in Japan, it means nothing bad, but is often used. I wouldn't be offended by a Japanese doing that to me, although I might laugh.

yea when you are in another country they will understand if you mess up doing something, and more than likely if someone invited you tto have dinner or eat sushi or eat with them in general. They will have the patience, and will understand that you are new to the customs. Of course you have to be willing to learn, and once you show that it's much more friendlier. This was my experience when I was in Turkey. I will be going to Japan soon, but I know Japanese customs because well I know a family.

well when you are eating with chopsticks do not under any circumstances stick your chopsticks straight into the dish because that's what they do at funerals. Very bad omen doing it to food especially rice. Also eat every grain of rice. I mean every grain.. I got torn a new one for leaving 1 grain in my bowl of rice.
