One of the BEST for sure.... and just to end it. It is not a mandolin it is a violin. He just pulls it off his chin and picks it like a guitar. I've seen enough of their concerts to know.

i've just noticed that at the 1:33 fill, carter sticks another beat in which i don't think is meant to be there
he does an extra triplet. Can someone let me know if i'm right there, i'd like it to be someone other than just me thinking that!! thanks
I listened to that ... ( 2 weeks ago by lumberjack2121)
I listened to that section about 20 times and i came to the conclusion that its right. if he would have taken one of the hits out his timing would have been off with the crash. thats just my thought on it though. only person that can really say is the man himself. besides, he's carter f'in beauford! haha
actually i think ... ( 2 weeks ago by JMgymnast22)
actually i think the extra beat is right. tap your foot to the beat and it sounds right

ok, so my post was deleted. i didn't mean it any offensive way, just trying to be silly. my bad! anyways, this drummer is awesome.

Zildjian cymbals and Remo heads... he used Evans drums heads for a long time but switched to Remo a couple years ago after having some durability issues with Evans.

He's totally ... ( 1 week ago by gmcjetpilot)
He's totally different. He has "right hand kit" but plays like a left handed drummer (kind of). A typical right hand drummer crosses over the R hand (sorry if you know this) to play the hihat, while the left plays snare, under the crossed over hand playing hihat. He plays uncrossed, left hand on hi-hat, right hand on snare. Not unheard of but not typ. You usually play RIDE beats (hi-hat) with a strong hand. Carter has two strong hands. His style/sticking is unique w/ lots of limb "independence".
the left handed ... ( 6 days ago by JVNesbit17)
the left handed thing your talking about is because its easy to lead with your left hand on the snare and the next immediate tom. right hand leads the rest
Gee thanks I've ... ( 6 days ago by gmcjetpilot)
Gee thanks I've been playing since 1969. Thanks for the lesson son. I was replying to a question. Your "reason is wrong". With a cross over style (typical) the L stays on snare and R can hit/lead on #1 mounted tom easily. The main reason is how a drummer develops coordination & their brain is wired. All drummers use both L & R on high hihat but most have a hard time maintaining fast 16th notes or complicated stick patterns w/ their weak hand, which is L if you're R handed. Carter is L dominated.
yes i know. that is ... ( 5 days ago by eliasfrangoulis)
yes i know. that is actually how i play. im right handed but play the "open technique" so i play left handed. i found out the only way i would bring my left hand up to right would be to play with it as the lead hand. now i switched over to total left hand, and i interchange my feet as well...so ill be playing with my right hand and left foot, or the other way around or in other combinations. i feel it really is the only way to make each side of your body truely equal :)
actually he usually ... ( 3 days ago by thrmoz456)
actually he usually has an incredibly high pitched snare.most of his studio albums (under the table and dreaming, busted stuff, crash) the snare is so high its almost a marching snare, lol. the snare in this clip is actually high, but it was done on a bad camera that was overwhelmed by the loudness of the concert.
oh! no no i meant ... ( 1 day ago by eliasfrangoulis)
oh! no no i meant his snare drum is set lower height-wise! like lower between his legs. my bad! :) yes i can tell his snare it tighter, it gives off that nice crack :) nice info! thanks
