Thats how my house cats are, best buddies with the ferret. The ferret sneak attacks them all the time and they never attempt to kill him due to scent or some unspoken animal kingdom rule they have with each other. And they wrestle and bite each other but never draw blood, it is really a mystery to me because I always though a cat would consider a ferret with a vermin like a mouse or rat but they are worlds apart and it is apparent when they wrestle and play.

Even though kitty could probably take down a ferret, you rarely hear about it, because ferrets are not passive animals. They're not "victims", like birds and small rodents. As you can see in the video, the ferret is hardly afraid of the cat, and will actively, and aggressively engage her. Attitude makes all the difference. If kitty doesn't think it's a sure-fire knock-out kill, she won't be inclined to attack.
