Video Description:
A gallery of some of the greatest Italian scientists, thinkers, leaders, artists, buildings, cities and dishes.
Italy has contributed significantly to the World's developement, but some people in youtube seem to be unaware of this and enjoy bashing our glorious nation.
Music: "Intermezzo" from "Cavalleria Rusticana" by Pietro Mascagni
VENICE (Venezia): the only city that is over water, it became the most powerful in all Europe around the XV century. LEONARDO DA VINCI: to many the greatest genius who ever lived, a magnificent paintor but also a revolutionary scientist. THE CAPITOLIAN WOLF: according to the legend, she raised Rom
ulus and Remus, the founders of Rome. TRAJAN: the Emperor that leaded Rome to its Golden Age. TOWER OF PISA: the beautiful leaning tower. PIZZA: a delicious food whose Italian version is extremely popular around the world. THE VATICAN: the biggest Church in the World, in other words, "the church of
churchs". DANTE ALIGHIERI: the writer of "The Divine Comedy" (La Divina Commedia), our national epic poem and one of the masterpieces of literature. JULIUS CAESAR: a brilliant general and politic reformer. FONTANA DI TREVI: one of the most beautiful in the world. SIXTEENTH CHAPPEL: Michelangelo Buon
arotti's masterpiece as a painter (in his debut!), showing the Bible's version of the Creation. NICCOLA MACHIAVELLI: political comentator, author of the book "The Prince", whose ideas are still considered a masterpiece. PASTA: contrary to what many people think, they weren't brought from China (alth
ough the Chinese invented them independently) but from the Middle East. In any case, the worldwide known dish is with tomato sauce, a pure Italian invention. NAPLES (Napoli): many of the famous Italian dishes and canzonettas (songs) are from this city of Sun and love. PANTHEON: the most beautiful te
mple, dedicated to all the Roman gods. LA PIETA: you have to go and see it. ST. THOMAS AQUINAS: the author of the still in force catholic doctrine. GALILEO GALILEI: this brilliant scientist achieved the first systematic studies of uniformly accelerated motion but also played a major role in the evol
ution of astronomy. SOPHIA LOREN: excellent actress and sex symbol, who became internationally famous after her performances in movies like "Divorzio alla Italiana", "Una giornata particolare" and "La Ciociara", for which she won the Oscar. FEDERICO FELLINI: considered by many one of the best, if no
t the best, directors who ever lived, he made "La Strada", "La Dolce Vita", "8 1/2" and "Amarcord", winning 4 Oscars and the Palme d'Or at Cannes. CICERO: he made a full reform in Roman Law, changing it essentially. CANNOLI: a delicious Sicilian pastry, which consists on a fried dough filled with ri
cotta and chocolate. GIUSSEPPE VERDI: one of Italy's finest composers, author of some of the most charming operas: "Il Trovatore", "Il Nabucco", "Rigoletto"... THE LAST SUPPER (La Ultima Cena): together with the Mona Lisa it is the most famous painting by Leonardo Da Vinci. It represents Jesus in th
e table with the twelve apostles. THE COLISSEUM: the greatest remain we have of the Ancient Rome. Remember that this is just very simplified data

Just for sake of precision, [modern] Italy is very young, as the Kingdom of Italy was proclaimed on 17 March 1861 by the first Italian Parliament assembled in Turin on 18 February 1861. Before Italy was a 'mere geographical expression' (Prince von Metternich) or at best a cultural area. How on earth is it possible to say that Caesar and Aquinas were Italians? They certainly did not speak Italian, to say the least.
Array ( 1 month ago by 89maf)
It says
¨Tribute to Italy¨, not ¨Tribute to modern Italy or to the Kingdom or Republic of Italy¨. Italy is not just a geographical expression but also a cultural area.Caesar and Aquinas were from Italy and represent cultures originated in Italy.

Yes, Italy, as a ... ( 1 month ago by Xavilyro)
Yes, Italy, as a modern organized state, is very young (like Germany and other countries). But italian "traditio" is one of the noblest, most ancient and continuous value humanity has. Think only that every comment in this page is written in a language which latin contributed to create. And remember, people like Caesar, Petronio, Orazio and others referred to this geografical site as "Italia" and considered themselves as italiani...
