I saw this movie when it came out. I remember this scene and the "mad as hell" scene most clearly. But to see it again now, knowing what I know, felt like I was seeing it for the first time again. He means that 62 million other people are all watching TV. That all of those people go only to TV to get their news instead of books, newspapers, etc. Now, we have YouTube and Google where we can get news, but this movie was made in the 70's, so I think I holds up pretty well. It's definitely a problem if everyone sits around taking in all of the same lies, believing in them as if they were fact.
