Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles

Uploaded by: kentj1
Video Description:
A video by Plug-in Partners promoting the many benefits of Plugin Hybrids Electric Vehicles. If the current U.S. vehicle fleet were replaced overnight with PHEVs, oil consumption would decrease by 70 to 90 percent, eliminating the need for oil imports and leaving the U.S. self-sufficient in oil for many years to come. Even if the electrical power for those vehicles were drawn from coal-fired power plants, CO2 emissions would drop by more than half. If the power were produced by renewable energy sources, and the fuel in the tank were biodiesel or ethanol, the proposition gets exponentially better.
And you can get 100+ MPG!

The pollution from ... ( 3 months ago by ForlornStudios)
The pollution from power plants are currently less than the pollution from cars, however if electric cars were popularized more coal would be burnt... In a perfect world everyone would charge their electric cars with solar/wind power or any other form of eco-friendly energy.

Exactly. They make them ugly on purpose, so no one wants them :-)

Don't worry, Pickle... I got it; I'm sure someone else did, too. I dunno how much of a problem it would be, though. It'd be pretty well warranted.
If EV's took over ... ( 2 months ago by GSpotter63)
If EV's took over the highways of America and the oil company's went bankrupt. Would that destroy the economy? Tell me, if you saved $100 a month powering you car with electricity instead of gasoline what would you do with eh extra money? Burn it? No you would spend it some other way. It would still be put back into the economy. It would just get there without going through Exxon, or OPEC . . . . .
And as the demand ... ( 2 months ago by GSpotter63)
And as the demand for more solar cells increases the amount manufactured will increase, there efficiency will increase and the cost will go down, way down, just like transistors did in computers. The first transistors cost $5 each. Now the typical computer chip has 45 million of them at a cost of about 0.0001 cent each. But then computers did not have to fight a well established monopoly like the oil conglomerate.
1st of all co gas ... ( 2 months ago by iamheuno)
1st of all co gas is not pollution it is a natural gas and plants love it. 2nd of all the power plants that produce electricity that you use to charge your car put out huge pollution. Use more electricity you increase that pollution. 3rd people are starving to death all over the planet so you want to burn food in cars, stupid and unhuman. If the NWO gets their way and wipes out 80% of the world population then pollution will be very manageable (agenda 21).
Why would they burn ... ( 2 months ago by locdog387)
Why would they burn food? Their not going to burn food. And what is your alternative to petroleum if you don't like the idea of plug-in hybrid vechiles? Because depending on petroleum is turning out to be an awful thing.

We need to develop plug in hybrids that look like normal cars and dont say hybrid in big letters across the side, saying I'm a hippie. Because Im not a hippie. I dont even car about the global warming. I just want to save money. I like the milage the Prius gets but its so fucking ugly that id rather just keep driving my 12mph old truck.

Based on 45% highway driving, 55% city driving, $3.26 gal 15,000 annual miles and 300K miles. = fuel cost over prius. Then final number compounded 20years@10% .
Toyota Prius48cty/45hy $1061/$21,220=$0./$0.
GMC Acadia FWD6 cyl,3.6L, Automatic 6-spd,16/24 $2572 $51,440=$30,220/$84,443
Honda Ridgeline Truck 4WD6 cyl, 3.5 L, Automatic 5-spd,15/20 $2875 $57,500=$36,280/ $126,490 You are giving away over 100k to look cool. We refuel the prius 2x a month period and usually have 1/4 tank when we do.

I agree If we had a car with 300 mile range we would be set we could rent a car when we needed to go on a long trip use EV for the around town use. We rented a Cadillac that had less than 2k miles on it custom rims very nice returned the car with 6040 miles on it with 2 hours left on a 7day rental under $300 rental drove to LACA from Biloxi Ms. Spent more on fuel than rental. Personal car broke a week after returning glad we rented the part would have ripped the wheel off probably at 70 mph.
forgive this ... ( 1 month ago by emoshunz)
forgive this question if it sounds ignorant... is what they are talking about like the prius in that the ice runs the wheels directly as well, or does it simply charge the batteries? i think the latter would make more sense, as the ice could be smaller.
The technology ... ( 1 month ago by CinetopiaNet)
The technology exists today to mass-produce cost-effective PHEVs, but the global auto and energy industries keep Americans addicted to gas-guzzlers and non-renewable energy because generating "money" (debt) is the purpose of the Federal Reserve Corporation. Congress can and must replace Fed debt "dollars" with US renewable energy credits (US RECs) to reverse the suicidal warfare "economy". "If the current U.S. vehicle fleet were replaced overnight with PHEVs, oil consumption would decrease by 70 to 90 percent" Seems a bit of a stretch considering that some 20+% of the car owners (apartment renters/condo owners) will have nowhere to plug in their car, since they don't park their car close to an outlet at home or work. Until the infrastructure is there to support these vehicles adaption rate will not be that high.

Exactly, the concept is VERY appealing and I'm 100% behind it, but a lot of poeple have nowhere to plug in their car. I don't think any of my friends have access to an outlet where they park their cars. But if all the people who does switched, it'd still be a huge improvement. The rest could wait for infrastructure for either an EV or Hydrogen car.

I've seen, or heard, more acurately, this problem on my computer too. Then I discovered that the sound was being arbitrarily turned down by windows. It wasn't just me, I've seen a friends computer do this too. So go to your Settings then Control Panel then Sounds and Audio Devices then Sound Playback, here you click the volume button. If you see the slides are not turned up you know this is the problem. I hope this helps.

Nope. I know what you're talking about and that's more like a Yahoo! messenger thing. Youtube wouldn't do this.
