this is the horrible wreck that the 00 car had in turn one during qualifying for the samsung 500 at texas motor speedway. The driver was uninjured and was released from the infield care center shortly after the accident, i apolozige for the poor audio and quality of this, i have a cheap camera

this wreck scared me when i saw it live. with how hard he hit that wall and how much the wall was dented in i thought that it could have been really serious, that just goes to show how safe the new car really is. and safety is the most important thing, even if we race fans dont care much for the new car

I agree. A lot of us don't like the car, but safety should always be the first priority. They have really done a good job with the saftey of the COT and that wreck proves it. Its amazing that he just walked away from that. I was glad to see him climb out.

I saw that on Sportscenter this morning and it freaked me, so out! Then they said he walked away with a few bruises. I was like! That most be an awesome car and a nice new wall at the track. I BET THAT CAR HAS A 5 STAR CRASH TEST RATING!!!

i think the old car was safe as well. however in sadlers flip at dega he did not hit a wall, he just flipped and the flips take the energy out of the wreck and the car absorbs it and the driver feels less of the impact. if a wreck like what happened to mcdowell happened say 10 years ago i think we would be looking at something very different in the outcome, but thats what i think

After Earnhardt's death, NASCAR began to demand that SAFER Barriers were installed at all the tracks on the circuit...I recall the first SAFER barrier race at Talladega when Darrell Waltrip said that "Twenty years from now, we'll wonder why we ever raced with concrete walls" It is unbelievable that only four years later, we're already seeing, week-to-week another accident that would be otherwise career/life ending without the SAFER barrier. At lest something was gained from Big E's death.

thtas a good point but i feel that alot of the more recent incidents have been less catastrpohic due to the changes in the car i e the hanns device, not as much the car. as sad as it is to say dale sr's death did alot for the safety of the sports. i guess its true when they say something good comes from the bad shit

you wanna know something sad? between 1997 and 2000 there were four deaths in nascar(john nemechek, tony roper, adam petty, kenny irwin)and nascar did not do hardly anything for safety with those deaths, then when a popular and well known driver like dale died nascar realized that they had to do something, i will applaud them for the work they have put into the new car, however many safety features on the cars as well as safer barriers should have been looked at many years before these deaths

after those deaths they were working aon a car but Dale Earnhardts death helpedd them more than the others, just the way it hit the wall and everything it helped A LOT
