Not entirely..There's a guy making it in his backyard in New Jersey running an electrolyzer off of solar power. So he pretty much drives for free.

Modern, large electrolysis plants have an effectivity of over 80%, so you do not need twice as much energy, but you are right that producing the amounts of hydrogen needed for individual traffic using fossil fuels and nuclear power would not be any better for the environment than just letting people continue driving their gasoline cars. The energy would have to be provided from renewable sources like waterpower, photovoltaics, biogas, wind etc. which would be possible, just not so soon.

I agree with you about half the thing you say.
The term "Water power" is vague. Tidal power or hydro power is probably more accurant.
Anyways, Hydro power and biogas is renewable, but we could never manufacture enough supply the world. Solar power is widely available, but require a significant investment and the sun don't always shine. What we need is to break up water where that sun does sun, and move the H2 and O2 to where
it doens't. Damn, I am out of room to type.

deffinatly. one of the best ideas. no need to worrie about hydrogen spills in the atlantic, but their will be alot more explosions... thats why its more dangerious. but i think hydrogen is the way to go. even if the jack asses that work in the oil companies jack the priceses up, still would be saving teh environment. finnaly a use for deserts!
