2:18-2:24 is the best seven second riff ever. I honestly have to say that jason becker is better at guitar overall than friedman. he definitely is a much better composer. that's coming from a megadeth fan.

I disagree, the harmony ends at 2:24, what comes next is single melody line with a real buzzy sound, i don't know much about distortion pedals, but it's not two guitars or a loop, that's the phrase that ends at 2:24, not the one that starts there

well yeah i agree he's not the best improviser. he is one of the best riff writers/composers out there though. he only did one solo album though. that sucks. the three other albums by him he didnt play but the compositions are awesome

My bad. I thought they are talking about the arpeggios with Marty and him playing them. There are at least 2 guitars.
The part right after that with the G Maj 7 Aug4th arpeggio, that is Jason Becker with really crappy distortion. You can hear that distortion on the Paganini Caprice video.

and Hehe... the fist arpeggios is done with a double-note pedal by ibanez, if u see the VHS u will notice thats jason becker playing with the effects on the ground with his foot when marty take a beer. cheers dude
