it's amazing to see how good the graphics look when you put them next to nintendo's graphics at the time. hands down one of the best games of the mid-late 80s. so much easier now 20+ years later. lol.

I got it 20 years ago (when I was 7). It took years to beat the leaf spewing boss. The cool thing is, I played it last night and got to Opa Opa's father. I bet I'll beat him this summer--talk about a long awaited victory.

Two questions now that I think about it. First off, do you have your controller set to rapid fire mode? And second, I thought there was a time limit for the 7-way shot weapon?

There is no rapid fire unit, I grew up playing this game hundreds of times and press that button as fast as I can. There is a time limit for the 7-way, but there is a trick to get it unlimited: You have to buy every speed option... so the Big Wings, Jet Engine, Turbo Engine and Rocket Engine. Then whatever you have for Weapon 1 will be unlimited. Just don't forget to change your speed and Weapon 1 to whatever you prefer at the sell screen.
