I've never seen someone dance with a bottle on their head, but who knows, maybe someone did. There is a tradition that friends try to entertain the bride and groom. I've seen some pretty wild dancing in that attempt. As for tricks with their heads, I've seen people light their hats on fire and dance with it on their head, but I've never seen someone dance with a bottle balanced on their head.

In high school (when this movie came out), most of my friends were Jewish. I remember going to their youth meetings at the local synagogue, with dancing and trying to learn a bit of Hebrew, I found them much more entertaining than at my church's CYO meetings. I wanted to go with my friends and work on a kibbutz but was 2 days late on my Visa. Still regret that... they had the time of their lives, while I bussed dishes ... lol.

This is a traditional Jewish dance! We are doing this play in school.. and i am a bottle dancer. Research says that at a Jewish wedding reception, if one of the bottles falls, the wedding and the couple will have a cursed life!

While I've never personally seen it done, this is a very special dance done to entertain the bride and groom, by a group of men who had trained, basically, from childhood, taught by their fathers to do it. Really well-trained bottle-dancers could do it for an hour or more, in perfect coordination with others. I know it was common throughout Russia, not sure about elsewhere.

thanks, we had practice the other day. jessie5904 was right, its not that hard. The dream scene is the hard one.
