Your wrong and right, When it came apparent that Hitler was losing it Hess started to realize that the man he had worshiped was a whack job. He flew, in fear that Germany would be destroyed by the allies. However if Hess would of though for a minute that Germany had a chance of victory, he would of not chose to fly. It wasn't for peace.

Hess flew to England early in the war, when it looked like England wouldn't win. Germany only started losing the war after Stalingrad.

When Hess fled to UK I was 9 years old and I remember. My grandfathers said exactly what I have written at the beginning. Of course, when nobody of the Nazis heard it! It would have been suicide! A "comrade of the first hour" a coward? The Nazi explanation was: Nervous breakdown!
