This is my little tribute to Art Pepper, I have learnt this from an excellent transcription by saxsolos.com (very cheap, so please use) I have enjoyed Art's music for nigh on 20 years, and he is the reason why I play this frustrating instrument! The original can be found on the 1957 recording "Art Pepper meets the Rhythm Section" I am using exactly the same horn, a 1957 "The Martin" with a selmer c*mpc. This seems to suit the martin best. The terrible backing is by me using Band in a Box, sorry, I must find a proper band.....This version is a little bit slower than the original, I might do another faster take.

I can really sense this guy's love of music and the professional way he treats each song - with great respect - even given the very short time he's been on the instrument. He has a real ear for beauty, melody, and finesse.

I agree, i hate the damn thing. All my other stuff here is Aebersold, its just that this was in a weird key. (Otherwise I can't go an octave with the melody)

I am pleased that you like his music too! Just like Art played like Benny Carter when he started, I too have to start by imitating. It is a well trodden path. I have only been playing a year, and at least it is not the usual Bird solo being played!

If it wasn't for the lack of feeling and hesitation in some parts of the playing, I would say you have Art down pretty good. But then again, who could expend feeling like Art Pepper. No one.

Thanks, I cannot play 1/millionth as good as him, but I was just trying to get a handle on his style, but it is very hard. The other 31 videos I have here are my own improvs, this is my only transcript. but it was interesting to do, and I learned a lot.

Hi when did you take up the sax , i see some comments suggesting only a year ago , if thats true you are amazing , really , really good .I am 45 and have always wanted to play sax i'm starting to think i'm too old now to learn to read music and play ,i'm not talking about playing in a band or anything just being reasonably good, Have i missed the boat?

I started 2 years ago, but I played jazz guitar for 25 years, so I have a hell of a head start! No, you are not too old. I play in a band with people who started in their 50's. Get yourself over to saxontheweb's forum and there is lots of advice for "late bloomers"

Hi, i've been watching your videos in YouTube and I think you are amazing. I became a fan after "over the rainbow" video. As a lot of people i just started to play the alto sax, maybe a little late coz i am 31. Anyways, i would like to ask you where do get you background music and your music sheets. Oh, also, if you have any tips to improve my playing (books, videos, exercises). Thanks, and keep giving ud this wonderful videos.
