Actually, it wasn't factory supported. It was run by David Richards Prodrive team (later of Subaru fame).
Nevertheless, a clear answer of Rally1993.

He was tragicly killed along with his co-drive sergio cresto on the tour de corse (rally de france) may 2 of 1986. They went off the side of the road at a tight left corner. The car plunged down a ravine and landed on its roof. The aluminium fuel tank underneath the driver's seat was ruptured by the trees and exploded, leaving the two no time to go off the car. After this accident Group B was cancelled for the 1987 wrc season. Greatings. Thanks for the great video

How is it paying tribute to a man by passing off his talents and skills to a higher being? Toivonen is Toivonen, not god. R.I.P. to the man for all of his earned talents and skills in which he worked for.

Perhaps it's because people were worshiping a true god, but one of driving, and god was upset that they were worshiping someone they could actually see.
