I noticed he is using a homemade slide. I also noticed he is not using a capo, which some suggest Robert Johnson used. I personally don`t believe RJ ever used one nor knew what one was. Any takes? Now about this video. This is what I came to see! Thanks Eddie for bringing this man to my attention.

RJ absolutely used a Capo and knew what one was. Capos were widely used by country blues artists. Shines used them all the time as well. It just depends on what key they wanted to sing in.

Thats correct byhudson. Most blues guys would tune to E or D then capo for the key they wanted to save from retuning. Some used "stepped down" E or D. I think Miss. Fred was one that used a stepped down E.

I just wasn`t sure and leaned toward not believing until I got to see one of the few photos of RJ, with a capo. I have seen some extremely talented friends play his tunes pretty darn close without the use of one. Pretty cool! Johnny is awesome!
You can play the ... ( 7 months ago by byhudson)
You can play the songs the same way without a capo, however you will not be in the same key. In order to play with the same technique, as well as be in the same key, you have to use a capo. Capos are very common in country blues.
