Earth bound theory? There were plenty of religious nuts like the Jehovahs Witnesses and other Dooms Day groups that thought it was much more than Earth Bound.
I only pointed out the most wide-spread Y2K theory because it was used by secularists and religious groups alike.
As for 2012, the Mayans didn't say that this was the end of the world, but they simply did not record beyond it.
The Gregorian Calander is likewise only effective up until 2600's. Do es that imply dooms day? Nope.

I know someone that has stated many times that 'the world' is going to end in 2011. He says he just wants to stay alive (his health has been bad for years) until then to see what happens. He had a vision, he has an 'uncomplicated' mind. Maybe that's when it will start; or begin to unfold. He has channeled melevolent forces many times (unknowingly).
