Guam: Chamorro - Hispanic Dance (4)
Uploaded by: kuraku3
Video Description:
Performance of Spanish era style dancing. For over 300 years Guam was a stop-over point for Spanish Galleons sailing from Acapulco to Manila. Spanish and Mexican sailors introduced many new styles of dancing to the islanders. These dances combine both native Chamorro and Spanish styles. This Chamorro 'stick dance' may have been inspired by the Mexican 'machete dance', but utilizes bamboo sticks in place of iron machetes.
