Yes your argument ... ( 1 month ago by laronfox)
Yes your argument is very logical in a perfect world in which we don't live in. I'm more for geothermal or hydrogen. With more research and less bureaucracy we can achieve this. Other countries are working on this as we speak and are closing in on this. I don't know about you but i don't want to be any where around a Nuclear power plant i don't care how much they claim its so safe. It only takes on incident as you see in the Chernobyl incident.
Honda has already ... ( 1 month ago by laronfox)
Honda has already made a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle and its in production now and can be purchased at a reasonable price. Hydrogen is the way to go. Hydrogen is converted from the chemical energy of hydrogen to mechanical energy or torque in one of two methods combustion or electrochemical conversion in a fuel cell. Now Nuclear is viable energy but safe its not plus you have to find ways to get rid of the nuclear wasted produced from Nuclear Power plants.

Again, i agree with you. But, as you say, hydrogen cars are "just around the corner". It's a very clean way of moving around a city, since the only product of its use as fuel, is vapor / h2o. But again, Hydrogen is a very, very, very flamable liquid, so i'd say it's as safe as fosile fuels. And again, it's in fact clean, but the sad fact is that it doesn't have enough power to travel long distances.

In fact, we could have right now hybrid cars, part electric, part hydrogen. But they are not suitable for commuting for instance, since fuel cells are just 2 big for a car. I've seen a few proyects involving a bus, which was powered by hydrogen. But it only worked for "short" distances, a city route for instance. I totally get your idea, but again, a lot of work is still needed for those alternative fuels to be really competitve and affordable =). But, we'll get there eventually.

This is an incredibly good documentary, if not a little bit on the biased side. Pripyat is a safe place to go to now, just not live in. I too hope to travel there soon, seeing as I'm Ukrainian.

Sorry to jump in Did not see this mentioned, Iceland is pretty much run entirely on Geothermal energy, and most cities in seismic areas could greatly benefit from geothermal i.e. West Canada can run on geothermal expensive at first but it pays for itself

the only long term solution for power if humanity plans to be around for a really long time is nuclear fusion.

do you have to wear a mask?...its still radioactive i think. but other than that ur lucky as hell :)
Mask will not help, ... ( 3 weeks ago by intruder2600)
Mask will not help, mask is mostly for dangerous gas in the air. There's no need to wear any protection right now. It's safe, in fact there're lots of people working very close to reactor right now.
most people would ... ( 2 weeks ago by imperialswordsman)
most people would not want to live there. As you heard, workers of chernobyl lived in Pripryat.
One does not have ... ( 2 weeks ago by mkarnerfors)
One does not have to wear a mask to visit Pripyat or the area outside the plant. Many has done so. There is no danger to your health to do so.
One should take care not to disturb objects and such though. The danger is if you inhale or otherwise get radioactive dust into your body. Most of that has been washed away or manually from public areas by now.

Hm... I suppose you're right, for english. It's a habit from my own language where you describe it in third person.
Wrong. Radioactive ... ( 5 days ago by mkarnerfors)
Wrong. Radioactive fallout is invariably in the form of contaminated dust. A mask prevents you from inhaling dust and thus getting the radioactive particles in direct contact with the lungs.
This is particulary important for alpha- and beta-radiation where clothes and skin easilly stops the radiation before it can penetrate deep enough to cause celluar DNA damage. But if you get it in the lungs, you have no such protection. A mask will therefore be of help when visiting a contaminated
area.

Dont listen to him, he's being an asshole. You sure know alot about radiation.
