Bullshit. He visited Sri Lanka to do research for his book on a satellite connected to Earth by a cable. He loved the country so much he went back to live permanently. His idea BTW, has great merit and with further research in super-strong carbon filaments may yet be possible in the near future.

Hhmm, it's possible that he when to Sri Lanka to do research but wouldn't it have been better if he stayed in his own country England as there are better facilities and funding for science or even went to the US?
Also Sri Lanka has a civil war, so why the fuck did he leave the green and pleasant land of Somerset (beautiful!!!) for that war torn mosquito infested hellhole. It just doesn't make sense to me. That war sure created a lot of orphans, a ready supply of ass ;-)

There was no civil war at the time and I would not call the insurgency there now a civil war. Like most authors, he wanted to visit the place that would be the primary setting of the book. As he always had an interest in marine biology he found Sir Lanka a perfect place to do marine research.

"Supposedly" too often is used as a way of insinuating something is true. The real story is that the Mirror, which had to retract the story when they could not put up the proof they said they had, continued to make up stories about other celebs without being stopped.
