I wasnt being a smart ass, so obviously I know that it uses its voice box. My question is(I shall put this in straighforward terms for thos who didnt understand the first time) was this cat trained to do this?

No, cats aren't trained to do this. It comes naturally to them. They don't always do it though, and those that do aren't always as vocal; most tend to just make faint clicking sounds. If you own a cat you'd most likely get it to do it by getting it to play with something like a lazer light and pointing it on the walls some ways out of the cats reach, but where it can still see it.

Hi there,
Most cats will do this, it's not actually them 'talking' to the birds, more that they are testing the specific bite they need to do to incapacitate the bird. Household cats tend to 'talk' while they are doing it because they never really lose their kitten language.
