I think it was part mock and part love/respect. But I just thought of something else (maybe only because I'm intoxicated.) 'Back in Black' was about AC/DC continuing on after the death of Bon Scott, and I think this performance was only a few years after the death of Hillel Slovak.
So maybe they were putting their spin on (and adding humor to) another great band's song, while at the same time paying homage to their departed friend.
