MJ is an artist because of the way he can put tricks together. MJ is an artist because you can take him to any spot and he'll do shit you would never think of. MJ is an artist because of the way he sees skateboarding. MJ runs off of pure talent and strive for accomplishment.

well put. like, skateboarding has been art. but Marc Johnson is one of the few people to recognize that. that's what makes him so good. everything that he says in the intro to this video explains why he's up there with the greats.

Deceptacon87. I agree that Jerry Hsu is at that level, but (and this is just my personal opinion/preference) I wouldn't vote him in, yet. Theres so many good skaters these days, you know? I've been following skateboarding for so long, I guess I'm pretty opinionated. Thats why I said what I said about MJ, even though he hadn't put out a lot for the year, before Fully Flared. They only hand out so many awards that I think longevity counts for more than any single year. Its all about O.G. status.

Jerry Hsu is O.G. and I will say hes really polished up his style, as hes become an adult. MJ has just been a favorite for so long, thats all. I really have to say though. I think SOTY is one thing, but they should commend longevity just as much or more so. For those of you who've kept skating after most of your friends quit or through hard times, marriage, kids, etc. You know what I mean. Thats my point about someone like MJ. Its hard to keep progressing for so long. S.O.T.DECADE. How bout that
