German cars have more character than Japanese, even if they are more expensive than the Asian counterparts. I'll go with Porsche or BMW over Nissan, Acura or Toyota for the next trillion years. The GT-R is an impressive car, no doubt. Wish it had a manual transmission.

I agree. German cars indeed have more character than Japanese, and it has always been that way. One fact that you should not ignore, however, is that Japanese engineers are the biggest competitors of German engineers not only in car industry, but also in any other sector. Thus, I disagree with your "next trillion years" analogy, Japanese will get there much sooner than that. In the last result, I would take a BMW over any contemporary Japanese car too.

But the Japanese products, no matter how much engineering goes into them, will never have the quality of character the Germans do. It's a cultural thing. It's the difference between Old World European vs. the Japanese tendency to copy. The Asian makers can produce good cars, but they're soulless.

If you don't understand the character of a car, then you won't get the meaning of soulless. I've owned plenty of both German and Japanese cars; the Germans are far more engaging, entertaining and fun to drive. Currently have a 2008 911 Turbo; will be adding the M3 soon.

I wouldn't say the styling sucks, but I would prefer an E46 M3. It's just so brilliantly beautiful and gives a much deeper vibe than the E92. But that's just my opinion.

it's not so much cultural than it is all about personal preference. With the superior tone of your sentences, it is surprising such an evidence didn't come to your mind.. Personally, I find a second gen mazda rx-7 more appealing to drive than any german car ever. Another person would be more excited about driving a challenger than any ferrari in the world. That's the whay is it, but please, oh please no more "europe creates, japan copies" bullcrap !
