DJ tiesto's version of this song is different to the william orbit one so it doesn't matter who did it first. The original composer of the main meolody was Samuel Barber, he composed it in 1936.

70 years :) composed in 1936 when Barber was only 26 years old. wikipedia: The composer also transcribed the piece in 1967 for eight-part choir, as a setting of the Agnus Dei("Lamb of God"). It has since become renowned as a masterwork of the modern choral repertory. .... In 2004, Barber's masterpiece was voted the "saddest classical" work ever by listeners of the BBC's Today program .
