Hines Ward, Superbowl XL MVP, is changing the way mixed-race Koreans are viewed and treated in Korean society. Koreans celebrated his accomplishments and his mother's strong Korean character though she was shunned by her own people in the past. Hines reciprocated the process of amends by starting the Helping Hands Foundation for the support of mixed race Koreans in Korea. My Hero!

YOu must have not read the stories of foreign brides from southeast asia having a hard time adjusting and their children facing discrimination. Like I said just because there are more doesn't mean things are better.

i went with a bunch of friends in 2002 to see the world cup. I had 2 half friends and they werent treated any differently. I do think media did blow it a bit out of proportion. Hines Ward looks good in hanbok.

Gamut means runs the spectrum and Hello is self-explaintory. I didn't say I didnt know what one looked like what I said is how can one define that especially when someone says he doesn't look Korean what does a Korean look like? No one really knows

This video is about the story of one persons struggle with racial discrimination and stereotypes. The reasons why (for most of his life), had shunned his Korean heritage. Its about how he used his story to inspire others to break down barriers of ignorance and give hope to others who had faced this dilemma. HINES WARD,..YOU ROCK!!

I am not sure to what extent Hines Ward has had on S. Korea. But I was very fascinated to see during a recent business trip to the Philippines when I met several Korean men who had married Filipino women or who were looking to marry them. So I guess it is less taboo other groups now.

Not really. He said he took Korean back when he was attending University of Georgia but he dropped the course because he wasn't too sure if he would pass it which if he didn't would have messed up his GPA which would have resulted in him not being able to play college football.
He did say on his trip back from Korea that he would hire a tutor and learn Korean. I am trying to learn Korean. His life story has actually inspired me to do so, although I am not Korean but I love Korean food.

From what I have read Ward's father was the worst stereotype of a black man. His father was never in his life or provided financial support for him or his mother. The only decent thing his father did was to bring Hines and his mother to America. After that he quickly abandoned his family and Hines' mother had to work several jobs to provide for Hines. To this day Hines' mother hates his father for abandoning the family and trying to weasel back into their lives after Hines made it big in the NFL
