Trinidad East-Indian band JMC 3Veni (Triveni)'s Chutney-Soca remake called Doi Festival aka "Sidiki". [In the actual released song, as opposed to this music video, also features Soca Monarch Bunji Garlin]
This song is from the Indian Tamil-language Movie Vasool Raja MBBS (a remake of the award winning Hindi film Munnabhai MBBS) In interviews, Sarika, one of the singers of 3Veni's remix kept referring to this song as "Sri Lankan." Man, reading that made me cringe. I dunno how she could be so ignor
ant and unable to realize that Hindi is not the only language in India, and there are far, far more Tamils in India than Sri Lanka. Hell, even a two minute google search would reveal that this is Indian Tamil movie (which was a remake of a Hindi movie.) But whatever. Both versions are good songs n

you should've made the attempt in finding the song's rightful owners before the song was made, sir...and no, thanks...the songs sound great as they are...we don't need help on making them sound any better...but if you want to use them as mizes for your new songs, my only request is this: a) sing the language properly and b) learn the history of the langauge and the people first before you or your mates blurt anything stupid on international television. Thank you.

Thats true, this is a Tamil song, and if anybody wants to sing it, give credit it to the source, and learn/understand the language and the people. Problem is, when people thing of Tamil, they think Sri Lankan, because of the heavy population in Toronto.

OMG what's all this i'm hearing about finding 3veni ignorant for bielieving that the singer of doi festival is Shri Lankan. Ok we realize there are tamil speaking people in India but that doesn't make her ignorant come on the highest majority of Tamils is Shri Lankans what did you expect. Sorry, you're not ignorant, you're an idiot. There is nothing wrong with the former, but to go out of your way to be ill-informed takes a special kind of stupid. There are far, far more Tamils in India than in SL, even in the diasporic population in the West and in Trinidad (Madrasis.) The original song is from a popular film song, and the Tamil film industry is second in India only to Bollywood, and even then many B'wood films are Tamil movie remakes BTW, I'm part Trinidadian and Tamil myself

By the way, there are over 60 million Tamils in India. There are only 3 million Tamils in Lanka. To put that in perspective, the entire population of the Caribbean is 37 million -- 1/2 the number of Tamils in India. The population of Chennai metro, the largest city in the ethnic Tamil Tamil Nadu state in India is 10 million -- more than 3 times the numbers of Tamils in SL. Again, nothing wrong with ignorance, but an arrogant ignorance is annoying. Thanks.

The first people in Guyana were Tamil (Madrasi), you should be familiar with that term. Madrasi means a Tamil guy/girl, its actually a derogatory term used by the Brits.

hey can you guys just chillax?..for god sake,the tamil people from india/sri lanka or where ever you guys are from should be happy that us west indian people are trying to get to know a bit more about your culture and even trying to understand the language, its not easy for any trinidadian or guyanese girls to go out there and sing in a totally different language that does not even play a huge part of our culture..give them some compliments instead men..come on
