Warm-up Talk Video Part II - 15 Minutes

Video Description:
Okay why this, Part II? I have been getting many e-mails and questions about my stretch vids... Many like them, Thanks more to come, and many think they are, well, to aggressive or violent as one said, and that I am bouncing and I should not be stretching that way because I will get hurt, it should be gentle and relaxing and yadda yadda blah blah...
I made it smaller so its not so long to watch.... For more info: mikes-vid@wutang.be ------ Excerpt from DVD and Book to come --------- .......Martial Warming Up and Stretching....... As a martial artist "athletic warm-ups" are good to fit into your training but do not have the foundations that
are needed to your martial goals (i.e. martial warming up). Cross training is beneficial but it should also fit your goals of training, for example; a runner doing warm-ups does not do weight lifters warm-ups or a martial artist doing warm-ups does not do tennis warm-ups. Although the end result of
a warm-up should be the same, to raise your core body temperature to get your blood flowing and body warm, the means of the warm-up should reflect in what foundations you are building. Your goals in these early stages should be to build; subtleness, flexibility, pliability, resilience, springiness,
strength and endurance conditioning into your martial arts growth. As a martial artist over time you should extend your knowledge beyond your style and begin to research and understand physical fitness training and body mechanics. Many athletic and traditional warm-up and stretch routines are ant
iquated, physically damaging and can be counter productive to your future growth as a martial artist. All people, especially martial artists, regardless of their style, are prone to injury. Most common injuries can be avoided with correct training and are usually due to improper warm-up, improper s
tretching, and most of all, poor technique and teaching. Lack of flexibility due to inefficient warm up and stretching is the main cause of poor physical performance as well as a reason for many joint strains and tear injuries (muscle and tendon). Warming up can do more than just loosen stiff muscle
s; when done properly, it can actually improve performance, increased awareness, improved coordination, improve elasticity and contractibility of muscles, and a greater efficiency of the respiratory and cardiovascular systems. -------------------------------------------------- Well I am 40 now, and
have fixed all previous sport injuries I attained through training, due to the fact that teachers teach wrong, never say or can show principle, and we just don't know or see it for ourselves!!!! The western problem is just that we are not taught deep enough about proper mechanics of our bodies. Sur
e we can recite the bible of stretching and so on, but we just don't internalize enough into daily lives down to the bone... Its not our culture to probe the body and mind this way.... So injuries occur and we believe the BS that goes around or why we get injured and then our training suffers!!! T
he combined IMA/CMA flexibility, agility, stretching and strengthening and so on, are advanced foundation building blocks for those who want more from their body and there body to grow old gracefully. In contrast IMA/CMA is not sport training and therefore we should not sport warmup the same way as
for tennis or for basketball. I am all for cardio and physical fitness, but not in a sport way anymore. My idea is after achieving sport fitness, look to attain training deeper through the IMA ways of building the body here forth... Just look to the vids of teacher Wang in his 80's, he is a living
example of what and why I train this way... Human bodies are not geared for sport and core strength in old age, as we get older weakness sets in and this is what and why we must train... IMA/CMA training is just that, it allows oneself to see more that just fighting, but the fight is inside with o
neself... Ones daily life style, work, bills, spouses, family and so on... The fighting skills are just a by-product of practicing and self defense skills are attained... Sport fighting and IMA/CMA for me are two very different animals... I am getting older why would I practice to hurt myself, inste
ad I practice to live longer and healthier... This time I am NOT Sorry for the rant! I hope all enjoy objectively... mike martello

I commend you on ... ( 6 months ago by lgarcia51)
I commend you on your martial arts principles. They seem to be generous and rooted in teaching the truth. Many instructors do not teach for this purpose. They teach to keep the true secrets of the arts to themselves in order to maintain their schools open. Many students get injured, hurt, and go through mental frustration and an instructr will make them think its their fault. That is why I am thanking you for you sincerity.

Athletic background ... ( 4 weeks ago by mikemartello)
Athletic background was when I was younger... That is why I speak about the ideas of CMA as you train and grow, athletic ability should not be the same... It is needed for the basics... No Kinesiology, but I did over the years study many ideas of kinesiology from chinese ideas. Please read the side comments... Thanks - mikemartello
