She has an inner turmoil. One part of her mind would rather feel the hurt, than to take lithium and feel numb. But the other part wants the pain to go away. But if she takes lithium to make the pain go away, not only will she not feel pain, but she would feel things that are good too. Lithium turns off your personality switch. And you are just kind of there. People with bipolar struggle with these demons. And yes she does have a choice MachineAmbition. Even sick people can refuse treatment.
