As cruel as it may sound, the buffalo have every reason in the world to be doing this. We know if the lions didnt kill buffalo the buffalo wouldnt be doing this to the lions. The buffalo are just killing the cubs now so those cubs dont one day kill the buffalos calves.
Lions themselves kill other animals and dont eat them - for example, Hyenas and Leopards.

How could lions be so mean to poor baby calves?. Kill or be killed, that's nature's golden law. They killed the cubs so they won't grow up to hunt them.

True but why dont the buffalos close ranks like elephants do i doubt that if the buffalo form a defensive circle and shake their heads side to side and trumpet really loud i dont think the lions would dare attack kinda like how triceratops did when trex came along.
