Why the polls won't talk about the contractors, because in time they might need them to fill the vacum in Iraq.

I agree with John's comment about the need for people to put aside sound-bites to interact in a more meaningful way (a long conversation).
Divide to conquer remains alive today, as we are divided along wedge lines; race, religion, left/right in addition to being atomized by an individualistic mantra(everyone for himself), this makes it hard to discuss, let alone organize to tackle our common challenges

I agree except insofar as there's this big drive for "bipartisanship", "transcending left and right" and so on, and I think that's ridiculous and really dangerous. For a lot of reasons. For one, people SHOULD be political, should be passionate, should actually care about issues fundamental to theirs and others' lives. Also, in America being a "moderate" usually means being ultra-right rather than proto-fascist. There should certainly be cooperation, , more than there is, but not capitulation.

I'm so happy we don't have this ridiculous habit in Germany. How on earth can you take someone seriously that tries to convince you to vote for him by having movie stars saying "I like him, I like him a lot"?
