No offense to those who like this movie, but I just hated almost every moment of it, especially the torture scene. It was stylish and Tarantino's dialogue is always well written, but I thought Siskel and Ebert were right on.

Reservoir Dogs had some great acting from
Buscemi and Keitel but its not a very realistic film, nor does it carry a message
or say anything about its theme.

Idiots they completely miss read this film and it's not an urban version of the wild bunch, if anything it's a re-make of the killing but it's still a work of genius and better than Pulp Fiction(There I said it)

Siskel and Ebert ... ( 2 weeks ago by RedUncle)
Siskel and Ebert serve a great purpose for this reason: If they love something, I turn 180 degrees and walk the other direction. I'll likely hate it. If they HATE something, chances are - it'll become one of my favorite movies. It's amazing how consistent my disagreement is with them. EVERY single one of these reviews, I disagree with. They are *always* attacking my favorites!! It's almost funny!

you don't like seven, start wars and lord of the rings? I don't think you've a bright future, son :)

actually, I don't like Star Wars - I like LOTR even less (in fact, I can't stand those films).... I like Seven though, but I haven't seen it since it came out........ aside from a handful (literally) - I'm sorry to say, I don't agree with their views.... why do you ask? do you embrace their opinions??
I don't mean this ... ( 2 weeks ago by skrason)
I don't mean this as a flame, it's just that I don't understand how someone could not love Star Wars.
hey skrason: long ... ( 2 weeks ago by RedUncle)
hey skrason: long story: I used to be the ultimate fan of all time, of the first three films. I was extreme! As an overall package, I don't like the direction the series has taken since the prequels/recent stuff - which has spoiled my initial enthusiasm. I'm one of those people who can't separate the elements from each other/the whole. It's a long, boring story - not worth repeating, but I loved it 20 years ago - not so much today. Maybe that's hypocritical, but it's true. No hard feelings!
There's a visceral ... ( 1 week ago by merchantIV)
There's a visceral quality and a bloodthirstiness in some films that I notice they repeatedly turn away from. They hate most of David Lynch. Tarantino they're not always crazy about. Some people just hate extreme bloodshed in films, and I think that bleeds over into their overall views of films.
Hey RedUncle, I ... ( 1 week ago by skrason)
Hey RedUncle, I totally understand, and, I think quite a few folks here would agree with you. However, I still think episodes 4 and 5 are masterpieces. Episodes 1-3 have their moments but, all in all, they're nowhere near as good as Star Wars and Empire. Imho.
Empty? The point of ... ( 6 days ago by lucasaccardo)
Empty? The point of the movie? Obviously this guys didn't get what Tarantino was all about here, they do get it in the review of Pulp Fiction. The point... what are they talking about, Tim Roth's tale of when he was almost caught with dope in the bathroom, stuff like that is the point.
I agree with your ... ( 1 day ago by kaptainkrunch)
I agree with your take. I'd only add that Reservoir Dogs is ultimately a movie about acting--its effects and consequences. Roth's character is acting like a bad guy--that's his job--and he realizes, too late, that acting like a bad guy and being one become the same thing. It's Tarantino's best work, much better than Pulp Fiction (I think)--serious and committed, not just a bunch of surface flash.
For the record, I ... ( 20 hours ago by kaptainkrunch)
For the record, I love Pulp Fiction; the surface flash seems intentional, entertaining but not necessarily profound--consider the very title of the film. As far as the tales in R.D., I think that these, too, are part of the idea of acting. Roth's character has to tell the "bad guys" a story that will make them trust him. The story he tells is fiction, but he has to tell it in such a way that it seems "naturalistic as hell." I think we both agree.
