I would turn that ... ( 3 months ago by billk61)
I would turn that question back around on you. Chinese people are woefully ignorant about the crimes committed against Tibetans over the past 50 years of occupation. Consequently they do not understand when Tibetans rise up against their oppressors. Tibet was backward before the PLA invaded in 1950 but they didn't suffer anything like they have suffered since.
The crucial bits of ... ( 3 months ago by billk61)
The crucial bits of history are this:
Both Tibet and China were parts of Mongol and Manchu empires.
Tibet was self-ruling for most of its history.
Subsequent to the 1950 invasion by the PLA, Tibetans have been marginalized in their own country. The Chinese have behaved as colonialists, treating Tibetans as virtual slaves. Over 1 million Tibetans have died in military crackdowns, famines induced by Chinese policies and during imprisonment.
I guess I have a ... ( 3 months ago by billk61)
I guess I have a very Western perspective, which is very different to a Confucian one. I think of Tibet and China as equal but different. Further Tibetans are too different from the Chinese to be ruled by them. Paternalism always fails. Tibetans must have self-determination to thrive. There is debate about whether that means real autonomy or independence but things from 1950 to now have not worked.
Best regards

Daliar is salivating at the chance come back to China to enslave our Tibetan brothers and sisters once more. Why is the central government being so nice and talk to this loser? It make me so mad!
Hi, I'm not Tibetan ... ( 3 months ago by billk61)
Hi, I'm not Tibetan I'm Australian.
The problem with claiming that people who haven't been to Tibet can express an opinion is that so many people are excluded from travelling to Tibet and many Tibetans do not feel free to express their true opinions with strangers. But tens of thousands of people in over 40 cities and towns risking
their lives to demand freedom is adequate evidence for most people that the situation in Tibet is intolerable.

What a strange logic!
The protesters are not risking their lives at all. Are you risking your lives to write this comment?
Demand freedom? If the protesters live in Australia, you shoud denounce Australian gevernment who deprive their freedom! If they live in USA, you shoud denounce American gevernment!
So many people are excluded from travelling to Tibet? Travelling to Tibet is free!

No one is ... ( 3 months ago by iamlumin)
No one is suggesting a return to the old system in Tibet and that was in the process of changing anyway. Not one incident of starvation in Tibet prior to Chinese invasion, then thousands died due to a massive famine created by Chinese stupid agricultural ideas and the fact that the Tibetans had to grow enough to feed the thousands of Chinese troops.
When Tibet was ... ( 2 months ago by elephantismedium)
When Tibet was reeling under serfdom, China was under wide spread famine where millions die of hunger. At that time, rest of the world was under world war-II busy killing one another. Ladies in Germany were selling their body for a piece of bread. However bad Tibet may be at that point of time, Tibetans live in peace and have food to eat. Serfdom was the story of every society at one point of time. Can you accept Russia colonizing China simply because they don't like your way of life?

"Being unable to pay back the money and grain we owe Nedong Dekhang, we, Tsewang Rabten and my wife, serfs of the Dusong Manor, must give up our daughter Gensong Tonten and younger son Padma Tenzin to Dekhang to repay the debts. The descendents of their son and daughter will be Dekhang's serfs."

This video reminds me propaganda videos launched in Czech Republic in 50's. Everything looked so beautifull through the objective of cameras. Reality was killing people, political courts. Your video is just another propaganda. Chinese propaganda.

He meant protesters in Tibet. And traveling to Tibet is really hard. Unless you travel with an organized group. Sorry, I do not want that; we had the same thing when traveling to the Soviet Union in the past, when they did not want us to see all the misery and talk with the wrong people. China may have brought progress to Tibet, but occupation is occupation. And the thing about "invitation" the video talks about? The Soviets were also "invited" to Czechoslovakia in 1968.

I have a friend who stole into Tibet and was nearly arrested, barely getting out. She witnessed first hand some of the atrocities going on there. No one is fooled.

The Soviets were also "invited" to Czechoslovakia in 1968. Yes, before of after 1968,all over world recognize Czechoslovakia was an independent country.
But both before 1950 and after 1950,all over world countries recognized Tibet was a part of China.
