I'm not a big Beatles fan. I only own 1 Beatles compilation CD & I didn't buy that until after getting into Jules' music. My opinion of John is that he made a lot of mistakes but he seemed like a lost soul who was always searching for something. He did screw up BIG time w/ Jules. BUT he did finally realize this & was trying to reach out to Jules towards the end. In Cynthia's book, "John", she said his personality changed after he started taking drugs. So I think that had a lot to do with it too.

Well, John had talked to Jules on the phone just days before his death & had made plans to see him for Christmas. That's what makes it even more sad. Because John was FINALLY starting to truly reach out to him & then he was killed before it could happen. Have you read Cynthia Lennon's book "John"? If you haven't, you should. Very interesting from Cynthia's point of view. John was a very complex person. I think if he had a more loving family life as a kid, he would have been a more loving dad.

I just want to add that I don't think John was a saint. I'm just trying to understand him to figure out what made him act the way that he did. He had the capacity to be a loving father had he tried. Although, he didn't try for a lot of years so, yes, I agree he was a lousy father. But people make mistakes & I recognize that. John was no exception. I'm just saying at least he had a change of heart towards the end & was trying to make up for lost time. But it never happened because of his death.:(

Lennon screwed up with Julian, but he tried to fix his ways in his last year on earth. If he hadn't been shot, who knows how things might have turned out.

Maybe he will be. ;) He's releasing a new album soon, it being his 6th album, & he's finishing it up now to send for mixing in Aug. Got it straight from the horse's mouth on his MySpace page. ;) There are some early mixes of new songs there that will be on the new album if you're interested. Plus if you haven't heard it yet, do a search for Julian's 5th album, "Photograph Smile". Good solid album from start to finish. Can't understand why it wasn't more popular. He's VERY underappreciated.
