| yes that lathe is not quite right. looks like you've got a nice set of bearings and a shaft there, but the bet/headstock arrangement is not working. Heres a cheap alternative, fill a steel drum with concrete and dyna bolt it to the top! |

| the power is too low and the speed too high a different pulley arrangement could help , a very sharp tool is key , the wood looks very interlocked . thus fellow seems to be making it harder than it need be . |

| My geography atlas indicates the forests between texas and te appalachian mountains are rich with walnut . I have heard of farmed walnut in california and mature lumber from oregon . europe also has native walnut trees .hope this helps . the wood is very attractive so long as the colour suits and is good to finish and i think durable . |
