There's only one other score that i enjoy more than this and that's Hans Zimmer's/Lisa gerrard's work for Gladiator. Other than that, not much music I've heard is in comparison. The music itself expresses many different themes that are moving, tearjerking, and uplifting. A brilliant and undrrated socre by master Ennio Morricone!

The Mission did win an Oscar for Chris Menges cinematography. It did not get score, which I think is a huge rip off! Ennio has still not won an Oscar, unless of course you're talking about the life achievement award he won in 2006.

As said, the Oscar was not for this wonderful score ~ Morricone lost out to Herbie Hancock for 'Round Midnight' which was a skilled recreation of existing "standards" and not ORIGINAL as it's supposed to be. Co-producer Sir David Puttnam said Morricone was "robbed... I mean, grotesquely robbed of an Oscar." The Lifetime Achievement Award ~ along with which goes a standing ovation ~ was given in 2007, presented by a tongue-tied Clint Eastwood ~ "I should have worn my glasses..."
