Maynard Ferguson Give It One
Uploaded by: brian740
Video Description:
This was from about 1977. The best trumpet section, IMHO, MF had: Joe Mosello, Stan Mark, Dennis Noday, and Ron Tooley. Dig Peter Erskine on drums..dynamite.

"Tenderly", "'Round Midnight", "Ol
é", "Scherazade", "Airegin", "Give It One", "What's New", "El Vuelo", incomparable recordings... Wynton is a fantastic trumpet player, but he is very far from Maynard... Wynton has the tecnique but not the feeling, the explosion, the sound and the performance of Maynard... He's very far from May
nard...
He was incomparable
Every time I saw Maynard's band they were super tight. Could have made an album out of any of their performances. Re: the pay issue, I suspect people didn't join Maynard's band for the dough. I'd guess some would have played with him for free if they'd had the means to do it.
