The movie was shot in 1978/79. So in that sense rettass is right.
But you're right, the musical itself was written in the late 60s and the story takes place in the late 60s, too

This might take place in the 60's, but the war in Vietnam ended in 1975. Therefore mak1403 isn't wrong about the general date, but is wrong in saying the era was peaceful and calm. It was anything but! :)
