How is he struggling? He gets millions of dollars through his foundation, book sales, and money from speaking arrangements. These Religious leaders make me a little sick after a while as they have too much ego.

i am agreeing with you in that he does not look like he has been exiled because we don't see him suffering financially. My point is that he was exiled over 50 years ago...we never saw any footage of those decades prior to his exposure from the West...Hence "the sun will shine from the West." check out the movie Kundun, directed by Martin Scorcese let me know what you think...if you haven't checked it out.

How infinitely obtuse, you surprise me. The Dalai Lama has won a Nobel Peace Prize.
He is a monk, but I would say far from 'simple' in the sense you mean. I think you need to research the topic you are debating before making wild sweeping statements like that.

Yeah, and Al Gore won the Nobel Peace Prize. It just shows how much ignorance people have. Sorry, but I feel the Dalai Lama is a hypocrite and so are Religious belief systems.

It's real simple. Follow the Golden Rule. And do the Four Pillars. 1. True Rest 2. True Play 3. True Work 4. True Study Do as much as you can in each of these four areas as long as it is done in a positive way and with people you love doing it with. Remove your ego whenever you can and apologize to those that you do something that hurts them or violates their civil rights. Be ethical. Don't drink alcohol, take drugs, or other harmful chemicals that will destroy your body.

There is nothing in ... ( 3 months ago by stevenwhunter)
There is nothing in Buddhist scripture or teachings that requires vegetarianism. In fact, the Buddha forbade his monks to refuse any food offered them by the public, including meat. If meat is offered to them, they must accept it and eat it. It seems that you need to study Buddhadharma more deeply before you offer such ridiculous criticisms.

Vegeterianism is ... ( 3 months ago by yadsik)
Vegeterianism is encouraged in the Nirvana Sutra, the Shurangama Sutra, the Brahmajala Sutra, the Angulimaliya Sutra, the Mahamegha Sutra, and the Lankavatara Sutra, as well as the Buddha's comments on the negative karmic effects of meat consumption in the Karma Sutra. Also, His Holiness the Karmapa suggested his students to not eat meat. You should definitely not buy meat if you do not need it for health purposes, otherwise consider it medicine, not a meal.
In old Tibet before ... ( 3 months ago by bhshootingstar)
In old Tibet before 1950, 88 percent of Tibeten people were born as slaves. Slaves didn't belong to themselves, they belong to their slave masters who occupied 5% of Tibeten population at that time. Slaves could be sold, bought, abused at the will of their masters!
I admire Lincoln, the greatest former US president because he abolished the slave system in Southern America. Lincoln is always the hero in my heart.
Those Chinese who abolished the slave system in Tibet in 1950s are heros either!
Having grown up as ... ( 3 months ago by Bonngai)
Having grown up as a Christian I find this lecture an insight into the differences between the two religions. The Judaeo-Christian-Islamic tradition focus on ethics and a code of behavior but Buddhism focuses on the relationship of the mind with the spirit and the nature of reality and the universe. The gap is wide...fascintating stuff. I have to say amid the controversy, no wonder the Chinese leadership look like mindless flailing fish compared to the Dalai Lama

There have been recent Tibetan protests outside of China that were treated brutally by foreign governments including USA. Now the world can understand why these misfits are not wanted in China in the first place. Do so-called democratic countries really humane and democratic? Tibetans living in Western countries have certainly been racialprejudiced. So Good Tibetans everywhere, Your Motherland, China LOVES YOU and Welcome Home.

The Dalai Lama's insight and understanding of the 8 fold path of enlightenment in this video is indeed enlightening. His knowledge on emptiness is insightful and is very much beneficial to the yogi's quest of the no mind state and samadhi in meditation. Nice one Buddha.

The condition of our world and its well being in so many aspects is in the hands of the people. Look at all the poor and strange choices we make that lead us to where we are today. Its just choices ,look at what we are choosing from minute to minute. Individually we may be small compared to the whole but the whole is made of its parts.
