Michael Jordan 2002: NBA Record 51 pts at age 38

Video Description:
At age 38 and 315 days, MJ shattered the record for the oldest player to score 50+. The game prior had MJ scoring just 6 due to injury which stopped his NBA-record double-figures scoring streak at 866 games. MJ came out to make up for that here. It should be mentioned that MJ's injury limited him to just 2 full-game scrimmages the entire year in practice. One must wonder, without the injury, what might have been possible at ages 38-40? Zone was allowed starting that year with hand-checking tighter than today as one-legged, twilight MJ broke a few records that day.

In Kobes Time Jordan would have scored 81 and more!I mean watch a game back in Jordans days he was Hand-Checked every time,bumped,and got elbows everywhere,so in Kobes Game,he got lots of calls,but more important the opponents couldn't even defend really hard,cause he would just make it and-ones.
Not that i wanna take away anything from Kobe 81 is sick,but Jordan could have done that too
I mean he scored 69 and in the hand-checking era he scored 43 at the age 40! So just make the calculation

Lol i remember the commentator saying that, it was the '89 playoffs against Detroit, MJ takes off 2 feet beyond the FT line absorbes Laimbeer's contact (the guy is a 7 footer around 250 lbs) and shits all over him, a monster dunk. No foul called and the commentator says something like "we've been in this league long enough to know that no contact - no foul."

Enough with the Kobe/MJ stuff. Hindsight is 20/20. Players are much stronger and faster these days. Can't really gauge the toughness of an NBA defense without playing against one for 82+ games out of the year. Jordan got just as many, if not more "no-calls" than Kobe did. There's really no calculations to be made, because it's tough enough to consistently score in double figures against NBA squads in any era, let alone a rare 69 or 81pts.

jordan couldve done a lot better during the 01-02 and 02-03 season if it wasnt for his knee injury.. doing what he did at an age like that... its amazing~

The nba today is a joke, get used to it. Calls were tighter and they played the game based on the game of basketball, calls are let slide to much now days. Its annoying, the NBA is on the level of the WWE now.
