I'm going to cut you some slack here, imani, only because you are young. Maybe you write poetry, maybe not. (I'm going to guess that you are not a serious poet yet, if you ever will be.) Poetry is personal. The poet has something to say to the world. It doesn't really matter whether or not anyone is willing to pay to read it. The words gotta be said. Ms K's status as a pop star may actually work agaisnt her in this context. She has to be bankable. Business gets in the way of art. Bummer.

WOW!!! What an amazing woman. Words can't express how much I admire and look up to Ms. Keys. I can totally relate to what she's saying. I have the book and it's great. I recommend it for all true Alicia fans.

This was a powerful performance and leftysergeant is right. Poetry is personal, poetry comes from the heart. Not everyone has to like it. I, too, am a writer myself, but I don't press my work on everyone. If they're interested, great. If not, it's all cool to me. I write for me. Alicia spoke for herself, and that was a powerful performance. Quite relatable.

true. im a huge otep fan and i watch her "dedicated to my enemy" a billion times which is why i started watching others. the thing is, she doesnt get noticed cuz shes not another cookie cutout of mtv.
but im not dissing on alicia keys. she's different from other popular singers, and this is really passionate and deep. i liked it

Yeah, very good point. I dont really like mtv as much as my friends. The only reason i might watch it, is because they air an artist that I like. Not rap or pop, metal. They usual dont. But im glad on friday they premiered slipknot...although...they also premiered the jonas brothers...on the same night...I think it was an inside joke. Anyway it was hilarious because the jonas brother fans were scared like hell.

Powerful words spoken by a powerful person.
Her music sure is like a therapeutic voice to those "words unsaid". If only each of us has the courage and strength to be outspoken of the things happening outside and inside us...
