I know that you don't drive in only a few states like i do, but for the past eight months i go everywhere with my trailer tandems all the way to the rear. My driving skills have increased drastically. I every once in while leave them up and its a night and day difference. It's made me better.

For a non trucker I found it very interesting.
Just how long or how many backings does it take to get 1) acceptable 2) good 3) great I used to help drivers unload and inventory deliveries. They drivers were from one coast delivering on the other and would risk parking tickets rather than manuever too close to the building. Do long haul g
uys forget their skill when they only back 80 times a year? Everyone admires a guy who is skilled at his profession.
No set number ... ( 1 month ago by Whitelinefilms)
No set number really, it takes continued practice in a variety of situations. Long haul drivers that only back maybe once or twice a day (to sleep) can have a bigger challenge with backing, yes. I am a long haul driver but i practice backing even still. Many over the road drivers find it SILLY to practice but when you only NEED to back a few times a day practice is good to stay sharp on your skills. It was a pleasure talking with you Bob take care.

Great job on the blind side steve! Ill have to get a picture of my rig and send it too ya. I drive a freightliner classic XL, I have a 300 in. wheelbase. some ask me what it is like and my response is "its kinda like driving a school bus hooked to a 53ft trailer". Great vid and I subscribed a few days ago...looking forward too the things you do in the not to distant future.

You are right. ... ( 1 week ago by bigstretch100)
You are right. Backing takes practice and appreciate the skill it takes to blind side back like that. I pull a 53' spread axle bullrack w 260" w/b W900L, and am backing constantly into tight chutes on farms and slaughterhouses, or having to back in off of the road. Most OTR drivers only have to back into a parking spot at a t/s. The yard jockeys at the plants/warehouses do the backing into a dock in many or most cases. My co-worker ran OTR for longer than I've been alive. Can't back worth spit.

Some that do it every day still can't back up, even straight. Get confused or something. Even heard of people paying another driver to back it in for them. Some learn quick, others never do. I pull a trailer and back so often with a big truck, that when in my pickup and not pulling one, I sometimes forget which way to turn the wheel, for a second, backing up. LOL

Here is a idea for you. Check my other videos. Also try setting up a camera to record this in the middle of a busy street. Tho, i am not the best backer in the world by any means. Believe me i can handle my own with any equipment and have the medals to prove it!

This back is no where near easy. I have 40 feet of room from the building to the end of the concrete where the other vehicles are parked. My overall length of vehicle is 73 feet long the distance between the two buildings is narrow. Most people couldn't do this on the sight side.
