The big problem with this, is if the engines fail (or the car runs out of fuel) while flying. It cannot autorotate like a helicopter can. A better idea might be a convertible car/aeroplane, that can be driven to the nearest airport to take off. (A company is already working on this, I can't remember where though.)

I used to think that the cable was a safety tether. Then I started thinking it would be really hard to take up the slack on that tether if the car went wild, and keep it from crashing. Then someone noticed that there is no pilot on board, so the wires must be for remote piloting this car that can only hover, anyway. Perhaps Wally can tell us how this was piloted, since he was there to watch the event. Are those other people potential investors? Is that how you get invited so see a "test"?

Where have you been?? Everyone thinks about fuel consumption no matter what the vehicle, pilots especially have to watch their gauges for the very reason you stated, if they ran out of fuel in flight,of course they would not be able to "autorotate. Only helicopters autorotate and then by obly very experienced pilots. I know these things because I am a single engine pilot.

It would drop like a stone if one engine has less power than the rest let alone failed. It's a car? no it's a plane? no it's a moller !!! (whatever it is)

this will never take off...with electric/hybrids coming out and every small-huge cities infrastructure designed of road traveling vehicles why do this when you can drive a 300mpg safe ground car while cars and roads designed for safer, faster travel

I've been seeing pictures and video of these Skycars for well over 30 years now and I am yet to see a single one fly more than 20 feet off the ground or fly without a safety tether or fly more than 50 feet in any direction. I want these to become a reality as much as anyone but it just ain't gonna happen, not any time soon, anyway. Maybe if we crack small, lightweight cold fusion technology but that's an outside chance at best. Car in the sky? Pie in the sky more like.

wow i love it i want one now. i heard it goes about 380mph and top hieght of 20,000 feet. awsome but the 28 mpg really dont sound like something a plane will do i think more like 100mpg is more like it
