Ok the word "jap" probably not offensive to japanese nationals because they don't know the true context in which it was used, the same applies for many Hawaii Japanese as well. However on the West Coast of the U.S. it is highly offensive to many japanese americans. If you called me that to my face I'd probably knock your teeth down your throat.
