The first Desert Eagle prototype was finished in 1981 by Magnum Research, to chamber the .357 magnum round. They had a few bugs to work out and cooperated with IMI, who had fixed the kinks by 1983 (still in .357 magnum). Later in the 80's, the .44 and .41 magnum DE was developed. The .50 Action Express round was developed in 1988 by Evan Whildin. The first Desert Eagle to chamber it was adapted in 1991. It WAS the first to use the .50 AE, but It wasn't designed around the .50 AE.
