im no expert on Oscar Peterson but from what I know hes a rare virtuoso technically on par with monsters like Art Tatum.

He was influenced by Art Tatum but he probably surpassed him as a virtuoso and composer he also made a record where he sings like Nat Cole called With Regards To Nat,he made a synthesiser recordings that were never released and taught seminars on electronic music.

Oscar Peterson was one of Canada's greatest jazz exports. If someone from my country is on the same caliber as the best of the best in his industry, then Canadians are capable of producing world-class talent. Instead of being criticized for doing well outside Canada (and that happens too often there), Canada's best performers should be given the greatest appreciation for giving Canada a good name.

Many years ago I had an LP of Oscar Peterson singing his tribute to Nat King Cole. Oscar's voice had the same timbre as Nat's but not as pure - and this album was superb. I had heard that Oscar would not sing during Nat's lifetime because of the similarity in voices. ould love to know if anyone else ever heard it, if there was a chance of hearing it on a remake.

with respect to nat was recorded for verve in october 1965. the cd is readily available. manny albam ( a jewish guy from the dominican republic!) wrote the beautiful arrangements.

What I like about Nat is that, he stands and sings while Oscar plays, recognising that OP is the attraction of the ivories here, yet he's soooo capable of mastering this track on the keys.... He's amazing. Mikey xx for the record, i don't like his phrasing on this, i prefer the recorded version.. ho hum.. M x
