i agree, bireli is an excellent improviser but as long as virtuosity goes stochelo is much better. he is more traditional. you can't even tell when he's improvising.and some of his compositions will become standards for sure.

It's part of his style - Django did it a bit too, though not as much as Stochelo. Stochelo's vibrato is also very characteristic of his playing. In general, vibrato, bends & slides are part of the traditional musical vocabulary of this type of music much like pentatonic scales and whammy bar bends are to rock.

i half agree with you. bireli is astounding to watch and he does play in more styles, but i think that stochelo is a far more musical player. like "stochelosis" said earlier - you can't even tell when he's improvising. i love both of their playing, but i think i'd tend to lean more towards stochelo's style :]

Stochelo plays a Selmer guitar, steel strung. He owns No.504, the very next instrument built after Django Reinhardt's own oval-hole No.503. He also plays instruments made by Leo Eimers. His cousin Nous'che on rhythm plays a Fender Telecaster.
