The funny thing is ABC expected the US to get their heads handed to them and decided to show it on a tape delay basis. The game was played on a Friday in the afternoon on the west coast, where I lived. I was at a swim meet and on the way home, my Mom and I listened to the news report so I knew what was coming up. Later that evening, my Dad and I watched the cut down ABC showing and when they cut to the end of the period when we scored at the buzzer, my Dad said "Why are they doing this?" Duh!

They were predicted to lose because all the US had was a bunch of college kids, at the time the US didn't allow pros. Russia did. That's what makes this one of the greatest sport moments on every list there is.
