She is tecnically a dramatic coloratura, and some of them have a color and weight thats simular to spintos and full dramatics especially as they get older. Check out Cristina Deutecom and Joan Sutherland.

absolutely the most amazing performance EVER!!! This woman has it! Interpretation, savy, courage, God given talent, looks, energy, dynamic contrast, and pure guts. This is a masterclass in vocal performance and I wish she did more like it. I have listened to her other stuff and none of it is equal to this. She is magnificent.

She does have a great isntrument yes..BUT It is a 'timbre' with out personality, she sounds like a million other sopranos...Dessay has a distinguished colour that I can tell imediatel;ly it is her..besides has a true gift of interpretation...DAMRAU PLAYS A CARICATURE OF THE CHARACTER, DESSAY is the CHARACTER!

Dessay doesn't have a distinguished colour, atleast not much more distinguished than Damrau's. What Desssay has is a nasal French technique and a strange accent which makes you "distinguish" her easily, not her colour, no.
Besides, Damrau's voice and Dessay's are so different you shouldn't be comparing it in the first place. Dessay is a much more clear sound, Damrau has a darker colour.

"Glitter and Be Gay," besides being a great aria, is mocking coloratura arias, and an important part of coloratura is varying the ornamentation. Changing the cadenza there is not so much considered changing the melody as varying the ornamentation. Frankly, I don't think Bernstein would complain about it, and he certainly would not complain about a sustained High F. He didn't have a soprano who could hit and sustain that note, much less make it sound as gorgeous and effortless as Damrau does.
