There is nothing wrong with the woman's answer! By asking "what month" IMPLIES the answer SHOULD be A NAME of a month. What should have been asked is "how many months into a pregnancy does a woman begin to show?" The woman could have been thinking along the lines of showing because of the weather of a certain month, or even what is 9 months after a month that most people conceive. The 2nd person took a couple of seconds to figure the meaning of the question. This is a very bad question!

The reason the second woman understood is because she took a moment to think about what they meant. But they are under time constraint and think they have to answer as quickly as possible. When a question starts off..."during what month" your mind automatically starts to think about the names of months. They could have eliminated that confusion by asking the question in a way that it would be obvious the answer was a number..."how many months into a pregnancy...?"
