"Please Post any Video Respons, Thanks." -RevTyson This is one of the best PBD vids on youtube: Pale Blue Dot - Gabebro1 's Version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-lgW21hSZw "Since, in the long run, every planetary civilization will be endangered by impacts from space, every surviving civiliz
ation is obliged to become spacefaring--not because of exploratory or romantic zeal, but for the most practical reason imaginable: staying alive... If our long-term survival is at stake, we have a basic responsibility to our species to venture to other worlds." Carl Sagan, Pale Blue Dot, 1994 Mus
ic by, PINK FLOYD Momentary Lapse of Reason: "ON THE TURNING AWAY" A remembrance of Carl Sagan, astronomer, writer, and national teacher of science. Here is how he introduced his 1980 public television series "Cosmos." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
---- CARL SAGAN: ("Cosmos" 1980) The size and age of the Cosmos are beyond ordinary human understanding. Lost somewhere between immensity and eternity is our tiny planetary home, the Earth. For the first time we have the power to decide the fate of our planet and ourselves. This is a time of great
danger, but our species is young and curious and brave. It shows much promise. In the last few millennia we have made almost astonishing and unexpected discoveries about the cosmos and our place within it. I believe our future depends powerfully on well we understand this cosmos in which we float li
ke a mode of dust in the morning sky. We're about to begin a journey through the cosmos. We'll encounter galaxies and suns and planets, life and consciousness coming into being, evolving, and perishing, worlds of ice and stars of diamond, atoms as massive as suns and universes smaller than atoms.
But it's also a story of our own planet, and the plants and animals that share it with us, and it's a story about us, how we achieved our present understanding of the cosmos, how the cosmos has shaped our evolution and our culture and what our fate may be. We wish to pursue the truth no matter where
it leads, but to find the truth, we need imagination and skepticism both. We will not be afraid to speculate, but we will be careful to distinguish speculation from fact. The cosmos is full beyond measure of elegant truths, of exquisite inter-relationships, of the awesome machinery of nature. The
surface of the Earth is the shore of the cosmic ocean. On this shore we've learned most of what we know. Recently, we've waded a little way out, maybe ankle-deep, and the water seems inviting. Some part of our being knows this is where we came from. We long to return. And we can't, because the cosm
os is also within us. We're "made" of star stuff. We are a way that the cosmos can know itself. The journey for each of us begins here. We're going to explore the cosmos in a ship of the imagination, unfettered by ordinary limits on speed and size, drawn by the music of cosmic harmonies. It can take
us anywhere in space and time. Perfect as a snowflake, organic as a dandelion seed, it will carry us to worlds of dreams and worlds of facts. Come with me.

It doesn't. It says God created heaven and earth and THEN earth became desolate. It's probably billion and billion, sorry Carl had to say it,of years old like geologists claim. The story of creation is of re-creation. I heard a rabbi explain the the term "days" in ancient Hebrew meant ages, like the day of the dinosaur etc. God's time table is as different to ours as ours is to a gnat's.

Thanks, but I don't think Carl is our salvation. Understanding the Universe and ourselves, to free ourselves from the Demon-Haunted world and unreason, to better understand our place in the Cosmos, is... in my opinion our only salvation.
If we can't think ... ( 1 week ago by revtyson)
If we can't think for ourselves, if we're unwilling to question authority, then we're just putty in the hands of those in power. But if the citizens are educated and form their own opinions, then those in power work for us. In every country, we should be teaching our children the scientific method and the reasons for a Bill of Rights. With it comes a certain decency, humility and community spirit. In the demon-haunted world that we inhabit by virtue of being human...

This is an awesome video and song. Instead of everybody focusing on whose god is the best God and arguing the semantics of how we got here, we need to look closely at the message: We are INSIGNIFICANT when it comes to the whole universe, but we need to TAKE CARE of THIS PLANET AND EACH OTHER 'cause it's the only one we've got. No more turning away from the problems we face. Own up and take part in rescuing and nurturing each other. Learn from our differences and stop destroying each other.

Carl truly was a gift from the Cosmos for us humans to realize that the Cosmos is waiting for us to come and touch, taste and see that all things are a joy to those who believe. Carl is missed, more than he will ever know. I wish that the Cosmos would grant us another taste, in these troubled and darkened times.. perhaps then we will realize, like we did in those early Apollo days, that there is, indeed, more out there than we could ever know. Only together in peace will we ever even see a part

If we are truly ... ( 3 days ago by zitlight73)
If we are truly insignificant as you suggest why bother? Insignificance cannot effect change. That would suggest that we're meaningless protoplasm on a meaningless dust mote in an indifferent universe and we might as well just eat drink and be merry for tomorrow we die. This is not about semantics but core beliefs or the lack thereof.

Way to much arguing, The bottom line is theres no place else to go and no one is on the way to save us from ourselves. so lets not screw it up, Thats what the song is saying and you couldn't have put a better video to better music well done.
